Fungi Forays

This Autumn has been an excellent one for mushrooms and toadstools. We have had sightings of the unusual magpie inkcap (Coprinopsis picacea) in the Long Border, near the Evolution Garden. Upright coral (Ramaria stricta) has appeared, as it so often does, along the little path from the Thompson Road entrance to the prairie. And some fine shaggy inkcaps (Coprinus comatus) can currently be seen in the Four Seasons garden, behind the pavilions.

It’s not too late to follow our Autumn Wildlife Tour on www.izi.travel (search for ‘Sheffield') to see where else you might find fungi in the Gardens - and lots of other examples of wildlife.
