Wessex Archaeology ‘Plants, Pleasure and Power: archaeological results from moats and gardens at Coleshill Hall‘ online Lecture

In 2020, Wessex Archaeology began excavations at Coleshill Hall. From historic research and previous ground investigations, we knew that the remains of the once grand Elizabethan Hall were just beneath the surface. What we didn't expect to uncover was the well-preserved remains of a previously undocumented formal gardens belonging to the Hall. The results are of national significance and with comparisons to the gardens at Hampton Court Palace and Kenilworth castle, the ornamental gardens at Coleshill Hall would have been fit for a queen. Join us as we explore the garden's connection to pleasure and power through the archaeology of Coleshill Hall.

Wessex Archaeology are a leading provider of archaeological and heritage services and an educational charity. Based in Salisbury and with a number of regional offices including Sheffield. In addition to working on National projects like Coleshill and Stonehenge, they have also been involved in local excavations in Sheffield at Hollis Croft and Sheffield Castle.
