Maureen Sawyer ‘See-Through Plants’ Live Lecture

This talk and all our lectures are FREE for Friends of the Botanical Gardens to attend. Members of the public are also welcome to join us on payment of £5 at the door on the day. Live talks are held in the Education Centre in the grounds of the Botanical Gardens - easily accessed via the Thompson Road Entrance.

In this talk, artist and garden designer Maureen Sawyer will illustrate the best see-through perennials, annuals, bulbs, grasses and subshrubs to enhance any border planting and turn your garden into a painting!

Maureen is a practising artist, an RHS speaker and speaker for the National Gardens Scheme and she has served on the National Executive Committee of the Cottage Garden Society.

She has developed the garden at Southlands, in Stretford, Manchester over a period of 20 years and has been awarded BBC Garden of the Year for the North of England.

Southlands has opened for the NGS since 2000 and has raised over £47, 000 for charity. It has featured in many magazines, on television and radio programmes and is a National Gardening Competition finalist.

Southlands has recently held a bursary from the NGS (for WRAGS - Work and Retrain As a Gardener Scheme) to provide practical training in the garden for a student of horticulture.
