A botanical journey of beauty and botany, myth and mayhem. Author and tree aficionado Jonathan Drori takes a gloriously illustrated trip across the globe, bringing to life the science of trees by revealing how their worlds are intricately entwined with our own history, culture and folklore.
His journey includes self-mummyfying monks, entrepreneurial resin diggers and the Venetian navy. From the seemingly familiar birch and beech, to the exotic moojar, kauri and gutta-percha, his stories are sometimes poignant, often funny, always surprising.
Jonathan Drori CBE is on the Boards of both Cambridge and Oxford University Botanic Gardens and previously the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and the Eden Project. He is Honorary Professor at Birmingham University’s Institute of Forest Research.
As a BBC documentary film maker he was responsible for more than 50 prime-time science shows and documentaries. His TED talks on botany and science have been viewed millions of times and his books (Around the World in 80 Trees and Around the World in 80 Plants) are bestsellers in more than twenty languages.
