Education Project

Today (1st March) Nicola Thorpe, our Education Project Officer, has submitted a grant application to the National Lottery Heritage Fund for the second round of funding for the Education and Engagement project in the Gardens. The project is run jointly by the Council, the Sheffield Botanical Gardens Trust and the Friends.

Nicola has spent her time with us exploring possibilities for programmes designed for all ages, backgrounds and interests. Her application is for a grant to cover two years of salary and other costs for a full-time Education Development Co-ordinator, whose role will be to implement the programmes Nicola has recommended. Schools will be one of the first to be involved, for whom an initial suite of projects based on the National Curriculum will be rolled out.

In May, Nicola will take part in our online lectures series to give the Friends greater detail about these plans. We expect to hear the result of the application in June and hope to have someone in post in the Autumn.
