Dr Timothy Walker ‘What HAVE PLANTS EVER DONE FOR US? online lecture

Rarely does a minute go by when we are not involved in an activity that would be impossible without the help of plants.

In this talk Dr Timothy Walker looks at mankind’s dependence on plants for everything from food to film and from painkillers to paint.  He also examines the ways in which our exploitation of plants could keep up with demand from an increasing global population and what we as individuals can do to help future generations.

Timothy Walker is a botanist, having studied botany at University College, Oxford followed by horticultural study and training at Askham Bryan College and Kew Gardens. He was Director of the University of Oxford Botanic Garden & Harcourt Arboretum from1988 to 2014 and during this period the Garden won four Gold Medals at Chelsea. Since 2014 he has been a tutor in Plant Biology at Somerville College Oxford.
