Diane Clement ‘Alpines in the Wild and in Cultivation’ Live Lecture

What is an alpine, where do they grow and why? In this talk, alpine expert Diane Clement will walk us through alpine scenery at different altitudes, observing where and how the plants grow. By looking for clues we will see how we too can adapt our gardens in order to grow different types of alpines. A chance to ‘visit’ wonderful mountains and flowers!

Diane has been visiting the European Alps for over 40 years to observe plants growing in the wild, and has also travelled on plant hunting trips to Colorado, Turkey, China, Japan and Kyrgyzstan. She joined the Alpine Garden Society over 20 years ago, and is a very active member of the Society, regularly exhibiting her plants at AGS shows, and is a judge and judging co-ordinator.

Diane grows a wide range of plants under glass and in her garden. Although her garden is very shady she aims at having something in flower every day of the year.  She is a passionate grower from seed, and has been involved in the Alpine Garden Society for 20 years, and for the last 12 years has been the Director of their Seed Exchange.

This talk and all our lectures are FREE for Friends of the Botanical Gardens to attend. Members of the public are also welcome to join us on payment of £5 at the door on the day. Live talks are held in the Education Centre in the grounds of the Botanical Gardens - easily accessed via the Thompson Road Entrance.
