Dean Charlton ‘The Journey of Hooton’s Walled Nursery’ Live Lecture

This talk and all our lectures are FREE for Friends of the Botanical Gardens to attend. Members of the public are also welcome to join us on payment of £5 at the door on the day. Live talks are held in the Education Centre in the grounds of the Botanical Gardens - easily accessed via the Thompson Road Entrance.

In 2024 Dean Charlton joined his father Glenn in taking over and revitalising a 4 acre walled garden near Rotherham, South Yorkshire, which they launched as Hooton’s Walled Nursery. Dean’s talk will look at the journey they have taken over the course of the year and share details of the gardens and nurseries that have inspired and influenced them along the way.

Before Dean’s nursery venture he worked at Great Dixter for 6 years, working in the Garden with Fergus Garrett for three years and then another three years working with Michael Morphy in the Great Dixter Nursery.

He spent a short time working at Beth Chattos and has always had an interest in both Art and Horticulture.
