In this talk, Catherine Howell will cover what we mean by 'Seed Sovereignty,' ie the history and politics of seed production, the importance of diversity, and some simple 'next steps’.

Catherine is the northern region co-ordinator for the *Gaia Foundation's Seed Sovereignty programme.  She has 15 years' experience in the development and management of community food growing programmes in the north east of England, regenerating urban spaces for the benefit of local people, creating opportunities for better mental and physical wellbeing and building resilience to the challenges of climate change.

She recalls our Sheffield Botanic Gardens as a sanctuary for a frazzled student when she studied at the University of Sheffield and is delighted to be reconnecting with us!

*The Gaia Foundation is a small, international organisation with 35 years’ experience accompanying partners, communities and movements around the world to revive and protect bio-cultural diversity.
