Advolly Richmond ‘Flora Domestica: A Social History of Indoor Plants’ ONLINE LECTURE

We encountered technical issues with Advolly’s lecture on 10 January, so she has kindly agreed to offer it once again, on Monday 17 January 2022. This lecture will be held online via Zoom.

In this lecture, Advolly Richmond traces the social history of indoor plants from ancient Japan through to the present day. She will look at the social factors and events which played a part in the changing fashions as new plants and ideas arrived and the talk will also highlight the complicated relationship we all have with them.

Advolly Richmond is a Garden/Plant and Social Historian based in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, UK. She is a trustee of the Welsh Historic Gardens Trust and she sits on the Gardens Trust Events and Education Committee.

Through her Royal Horticultural Society training and qualifications she went on to achieve an MA in Garden History from the University of Bristol. Advolly is a member of the Garden Media Guild, she is a television presenter on BBC Gardener’s World and is a contributor to BBC Gardener’s Question Time.

She lectures on a variety of 16th to 20th century topics and she also produces The Garden History Podcast which can be found on her website.
